Pastoral Officer – Secondary School

Location: Barnsley
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time

An inclusive and ambitious secondary school in Barnsley is looking to appoint a dedicated Pastoral Officer to play a key role in supporting pupils’ welfare, attendance, behaviour, and overall engagement with school life. This position is ideal for an individual who is committed to helping young people overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.

About the Role
  • Providing pastoral guidance and support to students throughout the school day
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, resilience, and emotional wellbeing
  • Monitoring attendance, behaviour records, and safeguarding concerns, ensuring appropriate interventions are put in place
  • Building strong working relationships with teaching staff, pastoral teams, families, and external professionals
  • Supporting pupils who may face social, emotional, behavioural, or additional learning challenges
  • Helping to create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
  • Supporting the implementation of behaviour and attendance improvement strategies
  • Acting as a key point of contact for students requiring additional pastoral support

About You
  • Have previous experience working within a pastoral, behaviour, safeguarding, attendance, or student support setting in a secondary school
  • Be confident supporting young people with a range of emotional, behavioural, and additional needs
  • Possess excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
  • Be passionate about making a positive impact on students’ personal growth, wellbeing, and educational success
  • Have a proactive and supportive approach to working with pupils, families, and staff
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
