Capital Compactors Limited are looking for an Design Engineer Apprentice to complete a Level 3 Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician apprenticeship and join their team.

As a Design Engineer Apprentice, the candidate will learn to create and develop 3D CAD models and engineering drawings, supporting the small team of designers and engineers. The candidate will gain practical experience in Solid Works, digital design workflows, and real-world engineering processes while contributing to live projects.

Role & responsibilities:
  • Work alongside experienced designers and engineers to develop 3D CAD models and drawings using Solid Works
  • Assist in creating drawings for bespoke machinery builds and supporting ongoing projects
  • Learn to use PDM and task management systems to support efficient workflows
  • Observe and assist with liaising with factory teams, including taking measurements and understanding machinery on the shop floor
  • Explore advanced Solid Works features such as simulation and animation
  • Support the team in maintaining high standards, accurate drawings, and organized workflows
Skills required:
  • Basic knowledge of CAD or IT software is desirable but not essential; full training will be provided
  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and a proactive attitude
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well in a small team

  • A keen interest in engineering, design, and 3D CAD software
  • Commitment to following health and safety practices in the workplace
  • Ability to thrive in challenging situations

Capital Compactors and Balers is a company with over 25 years of experience in Waste Management and one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of Waste Compactors and Recycling Balers.

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:

Advanced apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
