Job Description

Are you passionate about using the latest hydrological science to deliver outcomes across the flood-sector?

We're looking for a hydrologist to join one of our Evidence Services operational teams. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of critical operational services, helping ensure the effective, practical application of hydrology.

You’ll support the team to undertake and review hydrological flood-risk modelling across the land-use planning and FCRM capital investment programmes. Working closely with colleagues across Evidence Services, you’ll help keep our wider flood-risk modelling work moving, providing cornerstone hydrological expertise that underpin the modelling chain.

Working alongside technical specialists, you will undertake hydrological analysis, contribute to national improvement projects and provide evidence that supports better decisions during both business-as-usual and flood incidents.

The role sits within Evidence Services, part of Digital Data and Evidence.

Evidence Services provides expert evidence, analysis and technical services that help the Environment Agency make informed decisions for people, places and the environment.

Experience/skills Required
  • A degree or equivalent experience in hydrology, geography, environmental science, engineering or similar
  • An understanding of hydrological processes and flood estimation principles
  • Experience analysing environmental datasets

    An ability to communicate technical findings clearly and with a clear focus on outcomes
  • An ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dispersed team
