Job Description & How to Apply Below

Resolute Women’s Support Services is looking for a Volunteer Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and help guide the financial future of our growing charity.

Resolute is a Barnsley-based, women-led domestic abuse charity supporting women and children.

What difference will you make?

A Treasurer will help Resolute because this role gives the charity stronger financial oversight, stability and confidence as we grow.

They will help by:

  • Make sure money is managed properly and transparently
  • Support the Board to understand the charity’s financial position
  • Help identify risks early, especially when funds are low
  • Strengthen funding bids by showing good governance and financial planning
  • Support budgeting for projects, services, the building, café and survivor support
  • Help trustees make informed decisions about spending and sustainability
  • Give funders, donors and partners confidence that Resolute is financially well-managed
  • Free up some pressure from the CEO by bringing financial knowledge and structure into the Board

This role is important because Resolute is doing vital frontline work with women and children affected by domestic abuse. A strong Treasurer helps make sure that work can continue safely, responsibly and sustainably.

What are we looking for?

For Resolute, you are ideally looking for a Treasurer with financial, governance and strategic oversight skills — someone who can help the charity stay sustainable, compliant and funder-ready.

Finance or Accounting Experience

Someone with experience in accounting, bookkeeping, budgeting, payroll, financial management, charity finance, business finance or audit.

Understanding of budgets and cashflow

The Treasurer should be able to help monitor income, expenditure, reserves and cashflow, especially as Resolute grows and manages the building, café, training income and frontline support services.

Charity governance knowledge

Experience with charity accounts, Charity Commission requirements, trustee responsibilities, financial controls and reporting would be very helpful.

Risk management

Someone who can help identify financial risks early, such as low reserves, rising costs, funding gaps or over-reliance on one income stream.

Funding and sustainability insight

A Treasurer who can support funding bids, understand restricted and unrestricted income, and help demonstrate strong financial planning to funders.

Strategic thinking

Someone who can help the Board make informed decisions about growth, staffing, services, fundraising, trading income and long-term sustainability.

Attention to detail and integrity

The role needs someone reliable, honest, confidential and confident to challenge where needed.

Additional qualifications

We are particularly looking for someone with experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping, charity finance, business management or financial governance. Knowledge of charity accounts, budgets, cashflow, reserves, funding, risk management and Charity Commission requirements would be especially valuable. Most importantly, we are looking for someone with integrity, attention to detail and a commitment to helping Resolute build a strong, sustainable future for women and children affected by domestic abuse.

Hybrid

What will you be doing?
  • Experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping, business, charity finance or financial management
  • A good understanding of budgets and financial reporting
  • Integrity, reliability and attention to detail
  • A commitment to Resolute’s mission and values
  • An understanding of charity governance would be helpful, but not essential

This is a voluntary trustee role, but the impact will be huge. Your skills will directly support our ability to continue providing life-changing support to women and children affected by domestic abuse.
