This role is a fantastic opportunity for apprentices who are currently studying for NVQ Level 2/3, apprentices should note that thesalary would be Agenda for Change Annex 21 trainee rate (75% max of band) until they have completed their apprenticeship.
The ward clerk role consists of two core functions, to provide a welcome for patients and their families to the ward in addition to other visiting colleagues. Whilst providing efficient clerical service to the ward team, including a good working knowledge of the trust digital systems and maintaining stock control of equipment and consumables specific to the ward.
The ward clerk will also support the delivery of the local patient experience agenda, using various methods to capture real time patient feedback across the department. Data collection and reporting, including the friends and family test, will be an essential part of this role and will involve one to one interaction with patients and/or their families.
Main duties of the jobProvide a welcoming, kind environment to the ward for our patients, families and other colleagues
Communicate with patients, carers and families to collect real time patient experience, concerns or sign posting needs to other services, reporting any concerns to complaints/patient experience team, in addition to the nurse in charge of the ward
Support our patients to share their experience and capture this experience in real time through discussions with patients each day
Support patients, where necessary, to complete the Friends and Family test.
Admit patients coming to the ward using the electronic system ensuring that all relevant patient information is updated as required and recorded accurately
To ensure notes are complete with the relevant documentation of the patient
Ensure patients case notes are filed accordingly and ready for scanning upon discharge
To collect notes for the area including Discharge Unit Request and arrange appointments including any transport arrangements are made
To ensure that any case note trolleys are kept in good order Photocopying of documents for transfer of patients To return appropriate case notes to secretaries and remaining notes to file To return notes once patient has been discharged and notes have been coded to the relevant location, ensuring all papers are securely filed with the case notes
To undertake any other duties consistent with the grade, and as discussed with the Lead Nurse To attend all mandatory training sessions
