General Practice Assistants (GPAs) form part of a multi-disciplinary team within primary care and support the clinicians in the smooth running of the surgery by handling routine administration and some basic clinical duties enabling the clinician to focus on the patient. Ultimately the aim is to improve the patients access/experience in practice.
General Practice assistants will operate under the supervision of GPs and at times other appropriately qualified clinicians.
We are looking for a GP Assistant to work at our Chapelfield surgery, S73 0AJ
. The role is a permanent contract for 37.5 hours per week over 5 days.

Main duties of the jobPreparingpatients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basicreadings in readiness for the GP appointment.
Arrangingappointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.
Extractingall information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.
Sortingall clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signpostingsome post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
Completingbasic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approveand sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
Support the GP with immunisations/wound care.
Explainingtreatment procedures to patients.
Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice orarrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultations.

Person Specification Experience- Experience of working in a healthcare environment
- Experience of working with the general public
- Chaperone procedure
- Ability to record accurate clinical notes
- Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to seek support
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Clear, polite telephone manner
- Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
- Experience using EMIS Web
- Experience using Systm One
