Job summary

Be part of Barnsley Hospital's exciting new Health on the High Street initiative. As a Meet & Greet Volunteer, you'll provide a friendly welcome, help patients find their way, and make a real difference to their experience. It's a rewarding opportunity to support your local community, meet new people, and gain valuable experience in a modern NHS healthcare setting.

Main duties of the job

As a Meet & Greet Volunteer, you will provide a warm and friendly welcome to patients, visitors and members of the public attending the Alhambra Outpatients Centre. You will help people find their way around the site, escort patients and visitors to the correct area for their appointments, and direct any enquiries to Reception when appropriate. You will also support patient flow across the site, helping departments ensure patients move smoothly through their appointments.

Other duties include collecting wheelchairs from around the building, returning them to the main entrance, and cleaning them when required. All information received during your volunteering role must be treated with the strictest confidentiality.

  • Ability to adhere to the principles of patient confidentiality
  • Able to walk around the site to escort patients and visitors as required.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Sensitive and caring approach with an appreciation of the need to be responsive to patients from different cultures, backgrounds and religious faiths.
  • Respectful and kind towards all patients, being mindful of their individual needs and supportive towards patients who may have additional challenges, such as sensory or physical impairment or a long term condition.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively with both patients/carers/members of the public and staff.
  • Able to offer volunteering support on a regular basis and be reliable and punctual in their attendance.
