Healthcare Cleaning Operative – Deep Clean Team

We are looking for a hard‑working person to join our deep clean team. You will be based at Kendray Hospital in Barnsley but work trust‑wide, deep cleaning our sites. The role involves hand and machinery cleaning of hospital premises and wards. Experience is desirable, but training will be provided for the right candidate. A full clean driving licence is essential. Shifts are normally Monday to Friday, with some weekends and Bank Holidays.
Shift times are typically 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM, but occasional later shifts up to 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM may occur. Flexibility is key.
- Hand and machine internal deep cleaning of trust properties.
- Outbreak infection control cleans.
- Using mechanical cleaning equipment such as scrubbing machines, carpet cleaners, high vacuums and steam cleaners.
- Flu vaccination encouraged.

Job responsibilitiesJOB SUMMARY:
The post holder will be part of a comprehensive domestic cleaning service at South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Perform domestic duties including deep clean in line with National Cleaning Standards and Operational Procedures. Assist in the provision and maintenance of a high quality, customer responsive service by providing general linen service duties.
Key Result Areas- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in clinical areas, offices, public areas and external areas using the appropriate recognised cleaning methods.
- Responsible for advanced and deep cleaning projects including internal and external windows, carpets and high level dusting.
- Plan and organise cleaning programmes with relevant ward or departmental staff, ensuring safety is not compromised.
- Operate cleaning equipment and machinery according to manufacturers' instructions, report faults promptly.
- Use appropriate PPE and colour‑coded equipment.
- Change curtains on rotation or in case of infection.
- Run all water taps/showers in designated areas on a daily basis and record on checklist.
- Spot‑clean to manage spillages and incidents swiftly.
- Adhere to COSHH assessments and safety data sheets when handling chemicals.
- Assist patients with directional requests and refer enquiries to appropriate staff.
- Report damaged furniture, fittings, equipment and decor.
- Check and report out‑of‑date portable appliance testing dates.
- Report infestation sightings.
- Maintain and rotate domestic stock levels.
- Sort waste correctly and dispose following recycling policies.
- Maintain and update paper‑based records, including timesheets and cleaning rectification records.
- Respond to initial complaints and take appropriate action.
- Perform assigned duties in major incidents in line with Trust policy.
- Rectify defects to maintain National Standards of Cleanliness and hygiene.
- Operate equipment and cleaning agents safely.
- Maintain equipment in clean condition, report malfunctions.
- Use appropriate documentation and systems.
- Open/close units, set alarms, secure buildings.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, especially when barriers exist.
- Maintain cleanliness to National Cleanliness Standards.
- Use laundry bags correctly for soiled/infectious linen.
- Receive, check, sort and distribute clean linen daily.
- Order stock and control linen levels per contract.
- Maintain quality inspections on linen delivery.
- Other duties commensurate with this post.
- Act as effective team member and support team development.
- Support training of new and existing staff.
- Engage in good team working and build relationships.
- Report untoward incidents and respond to complaints.
- Participate in Trust appraisal and personal development plan.
- Keep mandatory and job‑specific training up to date.
