Vehicle Technician – Barnsley Council

Full‑time, permanent position based in Barnsley, located in the busy vehicle repair workshop at Smithies Lane Depot. Salary £35,412 – £38,220 per annum.

We offer a unique opportunity to work within Fleet Services, supporting council services delivered directly to the community.

As a Vehicle Technician you will provide inspections, maintenance and repairs across a diverse and demanding fleet, from cars to 26‑tonne refuse collection vehicles. You must be able to work to strict deadlines, deliver accurate and detailed information, and uphold the highest standards of health and safety.

You will contribute to management information that informs decisions and sets priorities in a challenging environment with conflicting demands.

An important part of the role is to assist and mentor peers and new recruits, helping to promote the council’s values and beliefs.

This position also supports our Zero 40 Zero Carbon strategy by transitioning the fleet towards EV.
