We are recruiting a Loading Shovel Operator to join our team at our new Nottingham site.
This is a skilled plant operator role responsible for operating a loading shovel to move, load and manage materials safely and efficiently across the site. The role is critical to maintaining production flow, feeding plant and ensuring vehicles are loaded in line with operational targets.
You will be expected to operate your machine safely, professionally and in accordance with site procedures while maintaining high standards of housekeeping and equipment care.
Key Responsibilities- Operate a loading shovel to move and manage scrap and processed materials
- Feed processing plant as required
- Load and unload articulated vehicles and containers safely
- Maintain awareness of traffic management systems and pedestrian safety
- Conduct daily pre-start checks and complete required documentation
- Identify and report mechanical defects or performance issues
- Carry out routine cleaning and basic maintenance of the machine
- Work to site production targets while maintaining safety standards
- Support general housekeeping across operational areas
Operators are expected to take full ownership of their allocated machine, including:
- Completing daily inspections and reporting defects
- Monitoring machine performance and wear
- Keeping the cab and machine clean and presentable
- Operating within manufacturer guidelines and safe working practices
- Operate plant in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and site rules
- Wear appropriate PPE at all times
- Follow Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Maintain vigilance around pedestrians and other moving plant
- Report hazards, near misses or unsafe behaviours immediately
- Support compliance with environmental permit conditions
- Valid Loading Shovel licence (e.g. NPORS or CPCS)
- Experience operating loading shovels in recycling, aggregates, waste or heavy industry
- Strong awareness of safe plant operation
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
- Reliable and safety‑focused
- Experience with in metal recycling
- Basic mechanical knowledge
- Responsible and proactive
- Team-oriented and dependable
- Competitive hourly rate (dependent on experience)
- Overtime paid after 40 hours per week
