Position: 4168 - Sister/Charge Nurse

Overview

An exciting opportunity to join a Cardiology/General Medicine ward as a Sister/Charge Nurse. This senior role is for a forward thinking, motivated and dynamic nurse who is passionate about high quality, evidence-based care and leadership. The post holder will take charge of the ward, provide effective leadership and expert support, and foster a supportive, friendly and safe environment for patients and staff.

The successful candidate will take a lead role in coordinating, planning, assessing and delivering individual care needs with the multidisciplinary team, ensuring effective leadership and management of the ward in the absence of the Lead Nurse. They will promote clinical excellence through evidence-based practice and initiate and manage care for acute medical patients following agreed protocols and guidelines.

The post holder will participate in service development identified by the Trust or MDT under the guidance of the Lead Nurse, and lead a team of staff at band 5 and below. They will support and develop staff, undertake professional development and further management skills under the guidance of the Lead Nurse, and deputise in their absence.

In conjunction with colleagues, the post holder will be responsible for the physical environment of the workplace, including health and safety, security and safe management of equipment and resources. They will ensure nursing documentation is complete, up to date and in line with NMC and Trust guidelines.

Ward 21 is a 28-bed Cardiology & General Medicine ward. It is a busy, fast-paced environment requiring excellent communication and interpersonal skills, time management and the ability to work under pressure. The role includes delivering the band 6 responsibilities, including leading and managing the team and guiding individuals in their careers.
