Nurse Educator
The Clinical Educator plays a key role in developing, delivering and evaluating education and training programmes for nursing staff within the Emergency Department. The post holder will support the professional development of registered and unregistered staff, ensuring clinical competence, evidence-based practice and high standards of patient care are maintained across the department.
Working collaboratively with the ED leadership team and multidisciplinary colleagues, the Clinical Educator will design and facilitate learning opportunities, competency-based training packages and clinical skills programmes. The role promotes a positive learning culture, supports staff undertaking post-registration education and ensures compliance with mandatory training requirements.
The post holder will combine educational responsibilities with clinical leadership, acting as a role model for best practice, supporting quality improvement initiatives and contributing to policy development and service improvement. They will supervise students and new staff, provide guidance during practice development and help ensure the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care for patients attending the Emergency Department.
The role requires an experienced ED nurse with strong teaching, communication and organisational skills, a commitment to lifelong learning and the ability to inspire, support and develop others within a fast-paced acute care environment.
Main duties of the jobAs a Clinical Educator within the Emergency Department, you will support both newly appointed and experienced team members, ensuring they have the skills and confidence to provide high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
Key responsibilities include:
Designing, delivering and evaluating clinical skills training programmes.
Supporting staff through competency-based learning and ongoing professional development.
Creating a positive learning environment that encourages continuous improvement, professional growth and evidence-based practice.
Coaching, mentoring and supervising students, newly qualified nurses and new starters to help them develop clinical competence and confidence.
Working alongside the Emergency Department leadership team and multidisciplinary colleagues to identify training needs and support workforce development.
Monitoring compliance with mandatory training requirements and ensuring staff maintain up-to-date clinical skills.
Organising and delivering training on medical devices, clinical procedures and emergency care practices.
Acting as a clinical role model, promoting excellence in nursing practice, patient safety, infection prevention and safeguarding.
The successful candidate will combine clinical expertise with a passion for education, helping to develop a skilled, knowledgeable and confident Emergency Department workforce capable of delivering outstanding care to acutely ill patients and their families.
