The Role
We currently have an opening in Barnsley for a Security Officer / Security Guard responsible for ensuring not just the physical security of the site but also promoting a safe and secure work environment for all individuals present.
The responsibilities require a proactive approach, vigilance and effective communication to manage the various security aspects of the facility.
Day‑to‑day tasks and responsibilities are likely to include but are not limited to:
- Monitoring Access:
- Control entry and exit points to the facility.
- Verify identification of individuals and ensure employees, contractors and visitors are authorized to be on the premises.
- Patrolling:
- Conduct regular patrols of the yard and surrounding areas to deter unauthorized access, theft and vandalism.
- Inspect buildings, fences, gates and other infrastructure for signs of tampering or damage.
- Monitor security cameras and alarm systems ensuring they are functioning correctly.
- Respond to any security alarms or alerts promptly.
- Act as the first responder to any incidents such as safety violations, suspicious activity or emergencies.
- Investigate disturbances or complaints, document the situation and report to management as necessary.
- Be familiar with emergency response plans including evacuation procedures and protocols for different types of emergencies (e.g. fires, accidents, intrusions).
- Conduct safety checks and drills to ensure preparedness.
- Reporting:
- Maintain logs of daily activities, incidents and observations.
- Prepare incident reports for management and, if necessary, law enforcement or regulatory bodies.
- Safety Monitoring:
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations within the construction yard.
- Monitor behaviour of workers and visitors to enforce safety rules and procedures.
- Customer Service:
- Provide assistance and information to colleagues and visitors while maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Address any concerns or questions raised by personnel or visitors.
- Work closely with site management and safety personnel to ensure a comprehensive security strategy.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement or emergency services when needed.
- Equipment and Asset Protection:
- Monitor and secure tools, machinery and materials to prevent theft or unauthorized use.
- Conduct periodic checks to ensure that valuable assets are accounted for and secure.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, access logs and inventory checks.
- Document any safety or security issues to improve protocols and training.
Candidates should have appropriate experience in a similar role responsible for the security of a large and busy head office/depot facility.
- Previous experience in a similar role is required.

Ability to communicate effectively with staff, management and visitors. - Attention to Detail:
Vigilant observation skills to identify potential security risks. - Problem‑Solving
Skills:
Capacity to react calmly and effectively in emergencies. - Physical Fitness:
Capability to perform patrols and respond to incidents. - Knowledge of Safety Regulations:
Familiarity with relevant safety and security protocols and compliance regulations. - Must be willing to have flexibility in shift pattern required to cover for holidays and illness.
- Shift pattern – Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday night shifts (17:00–05:00).
