Consultant Ophthalmologist Special Interest in Glaucoma

Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in Glaucoma to join the Ophthalmology Department at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

This new substantive post has been created in response to increasing demand across glaucoma services and will play a vital role in expanding capacity, improving patient access and supporting the Trust's elective recovery ambitions. The successful candidate will lead on the delivery and development of glaucoma services whilst also contributing to General Ophthalmology and Neuro-Ophthalmology activity.

This is an excellent opportunity for a consultant who is passionate about service development, innovation and delivering high-quality patient care within a supportive and ambitious department.

The successful applicant will:

• Deliver specialist glaucoma clinics and treatment services.
• Support reduction of glaucoma waiting lists and improve access to care.
• Contribute to General Ophthalmology and Neuro-Ophthalmology services.
• Participate in consultant-led outpatient, diagnostic and treatment pathways.
• Work alongside a committed multidisciplinary team including consultants, specialist nurses, optometrists, orthoptists and allied health professionals.
• Contribute to teaching, training, clinical governance and service improvement initiatives.
• Help shape future service delivery models across the Trust.

Base: Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Sites: The successful candidate will be expected to undertake clinical activity across Trust locations, including the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, Heavitree Hospital, and North Devon District Hospital, according to service need and job planning arrangements.

Working Pattern:
Monday to Friday including evenings and weekends on an On Call rota.
