We are looking for an experienced and professionally qualified Senior Accountant to join our Finance Team.

Working closely with the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in delivering accurate, timely and high-quality financial reporting, strong budgetary control and robust financial governance across the Group. You will provide senior accounting support across management accounting, financial accounting, development and capital accounting, treasury, tax, regulatory reporting and financial controls.

This is a varied and influential role, offering the opportunity to support colleagues and budget holders across the organisation, contribute to statutory and management reporting, and help ensure that finance processes are well controlled, clearly documented and delivered to agreed deadlines. The role could also include line management responsibilities and you will also act as deputy to the Financial Controller when required.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

* Preparing and reviewing monthly management accounts, financial reports, reconciliations, variance analysis and KPI information.

* Contributing to the preparation of year-end statutory accounts, supporting working papers and the external audit process.

* Supporting budget holders with the interpretation of financial performance, forecasts and financial decision-making.

* Supporting annual budget setting, forecasting and medium-term financial planning.

* Maintaining strong balance sheet controls, fixed asset records and capital accounting information.

* Providing financial monitoring and constructive challenge for development, regeneration and other capital projects.

* Supporting cashflow forecasting, treasury administration, VAT and tax compliance, regulatory returns and funder reporting.

* Reviewing and improving finance procedures, systems and controls, including supporting automation, system upgrades and process improvements.

About You

You will be CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent qualified, with experience of working in an accounting or finance environment. You will have experience of preparing management accounts, financial accounts, reconciliations and supporting working papers, together with a strong understanding of financial controls, reporting timetables and budgetary control.

You will also have:

* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong experience of using computerised finance or accounting systems.

* The ability to analyse, interpret and manipulate large volumes of financial data.

* Excellent attention to detail and a logical, methodical approach.

* The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work to agreed deadlines.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.

* The confidence to identify issues, recommend practical solutions and challenge constructively and professionally.

* A positive and professional approach to internal and external customer service.

* The ability to build effective working relationships with budget holders, managers and colleagues across the organisation.

* A proactive, flexible and continuous improvement-focused approach.

* Experience of development, capital or project accounting would be desirable.

Experience of line management, coaching or supporting colleagues’ development would also be beneficial, as would knowledge of the housing sector and an awareness of treasury, VAT, tax and regulatory reporting requirements.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Basic DBS check.
