Reuse Shop​/Site Operative

What will I be doing?

Through our waste contract with Devon HWRC contract SUEZ has made a commitment to set up re‑use shops on our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) to resell donated items.

As a shop operative you will be in charge of the daily running of our re‑use shop, based at Seven Brethren Barnstaple HWRC, liaising with the re‑use manager to make sure the shop is fully stocked and that everything is properly stored or made ready for sale.

• Merchandising stock, organising, preparing, pricing and presenting donations for sale to increase sales and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Manage stock and communicate to the re‑use manager what stock the shop needs delivering.
• Operate the cash register, counting/reconciling cash and credit card receipts, processing returns and refunds.
• Ensure goods are sold at appropriate value and all rejected items are disposed of appropriately.
• Make certain that collections and deliveries are arranged in an efficient and cost‑effective manner.
• Maintain the security of the shop premises, stock and cash.
• Promote the values of the shop and the charitable nature of the re‑use scheme.
• Provide an excellent customer experience to encourage repeat customer and the smooth and profitable running of the shop.

• Have a passion for the environment and, in particular, this re‑use project, with prior retail experience and a real enthusiasm for providing excellent customer service.
• Have, or be willing to rapidly develop, knowledge of recycling and up‑cycling; understand maintaining stock, merchandising and handling the financial aspects of retail.
• Be flexible to work shift work and weekend work as required.
• Have the confidence to initially work alone in the re‑use shop (until volunteers are recruited).
• Exhibit excellent teamwork skills as you will also work closely with site staff on the HWRCs.
• When not required in the re‑use shop, be part of the site operative team at the HWRC.
