Behavioral Interventionist - School Based Services

For more than 50 years, Washington County Mental Health Services (WCMHS) has served the Washington County community and the Orange County towns of Orange, Washington, and Williamstown. WCMHS provides education, support, and treatment for individuals and families facing mental health challenges, substance use issues, and developmental and intellectual disabilities. Behavioral Interventionists (BI’s) within our School Based Services Teams focus on helping youth develop social, emotional, and behavioral skills within school and community environments. This role involves collaborating with mental health and educational providers to implement behavioral support plans aimed at emotional regulation and fostering positive connections. BIs supervise children or youth directly within school settings and are vital members of the educational team.

They also provide counseling in social, recreational, and daily living skills in various settings, including a community-based summer program. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position.

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interact effectively with parents, school staff, WCMHS staff, and other professionals.
• Valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
• Willingness to transport clients in a personal vehicle as needed.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and to execute restraint techniques.
• Ability to move from seated to standing with or without accommodations.
• Ability to navigate a school environment with or without accommodations.
• Ability to walk and hike up to one mile continuously.

• Experience supporting children with challenging behaviors.
