The OpportunityThe Legislative and Court Services Department is comprised of three branches;
Legislative Services (which includes Council Secretariat, Corporate Mail and Print Services, Vital Statistics and Access and Privacy Services), Court Services (which is responsible for the administration of justice within two court service areas in compliance with the Provincial Offences Act, the Memorandum of Understanding and Inter-municipal Service Agreements) and Enforcement Services which is responsible for administering and enforcing several municipal by‑laws including but not limited to regulations related to the parking of vehicles, pet controls, property maintenance, business licensing, and sign placement.
Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor(s) of Court Services, the Courtroom Support Clerk (CSC) is responsible to provide court support and administration services in the Provincial Offences Court in accordance with provincial legislation, directives and operational guidelines. Specifically, creating and certifying sound recordings and court proceedings, performing pre and post court duties, preparing court dockets, testing hybrid courtroom equipment, accurately completing court orders, endorsing charging documents, and updating court records in the Provincial Computer System.
This position plays an integral role both in and outside of the courtroom to ensure the integrity of the Ontario Court of Justice system is maintained. Travel to the Orillia court location as required.

EducationOne (1) year College Certificate in Office Administration, Court Support Services or a related discipline.
Two (2) years of cumulative part‑time experience or one (1) year of full‑time experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position.
Knowledge / Skill / AbilityGeneral knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements:
Highway Traffic Act, Provincial Offences Act, Courts of Justice Act and the Ontario Evidence Act.
Working knowledge of the following principles and standards: general office and/or courtroom equipment (computers, printer, various software applications, phone, adding machines, photocopier/scanner, etc.).
Demonstrated Ability To:- keep personal or situational information confidential
- work in a fast‑paced, high volume environment utilizing organizational and multitasking skills
- show initiative and exercise judgment to identify issues and bring them to the appropriate parties attention
- make announcements and statements fully and clearly in an audible voice in a public forum
- communicate, including strong listening, spelling skills and a solid understanding of the English Canadian grammar/language rules
- complete accurate and detailed endorsements
- work effectively in a team environment and individually without direct supervision in the courtroom
- accurately keyboard at least 50 words per minute
Advanced skills include:
Customer Service;
Interpersonal;
Organizational;
Written Communication.
Intermediate computer literacy using the following systems and software:
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.).
- Availability to work outside of schedule work hours to perform standby, overtime, or emergency response duties
Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing with a reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
