Working as part of the dynamic Summer Camps team, you will provide high-quality activities for children between the ages of 4 and 12. If you are enthusiastic, outgoing, responsible, at least 16 years of age with a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN), available to attend training in June and work throughout the specified months below, then we have an opportunity for you!

This position is approximately 35-40 hours per week during daytime hours, Monday to Friday. Maximum one full week permitted.

Inclusion Camp Counsellor Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Summer Coordinator and the Inclusion Supervisor, the Inclusion Counsellor will be responsible for:

  • Adapt camp programs for campers who benefit from additional support, helping them thrive in a fun and welcoming camp environment
  • Be directly responsible for working 1:1 or 2:1 with assigned campers to ensure they are integrated into the daily activities of the camp and camp activities are adapted to the child’s abilities
  • With the support and guidance of the inclusion Supervisor, ensure each camper's individual needs (emotional, physical, social) are being met
  • Prioritizes child well-being, safety and protection throughout the camp. Evaluates situations for potential risks to the safety, protection and well-being of campers and staff, proactively taking mitigating actions to address such risks
  • Instruct and lead day-to-day camp activities including but not limited to games, songs, crafts, experiments and special events
  • Acts as a leader role model, fostering a positive environment where staff and volunteers feel included as members of a team and are motivated to work towards common goals
  • Assist inclusion campers with toileting, feeding and changing though verbal prompting and hand over hand support
  • Provide crisis support and respond to behavioural issues in accordance with Behavioural Management System methodologies
  • Support and address unique situations and conflicts with participants and provides regular updates and feedback to the Inclusion & Site Supervisors
  • Work in all weather conditions both indoors and outdoors
  • Be flexible and adaptable to changes in daily schedules
  • Enjoy working with Youth ages 4-12
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Must be 16 years of age
  • Background or experience working with children
  • Must be available to work exclusively from June to August
  • HIGH FIVE PHCD is an asset
  • Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certificate an asset
  • Experience and comfortable working with children with additional abilities
  • This position requires an outgoing team player that works well with others
