This is a temporary replacement position for a bargaining unit employee. Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.
Reporting to the Manager, Student Transition and Engagement, the incumbent is responsible for planning and implementing a year-round Orientation program at the Barrie campus. In addition, the incumbent collaborates with others to develop, implement and coordinate transitional support services / programs that support the new student experience and are designed to engage students, maximize their academic success, increase retention and foster the development of transferable skills.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Working out of the First Year Experience Drop-In Centre the incumbent collaborates with students and other staff to organize, implement and coordinate transitional support services and programs which includes:Recommending and developing, new or enhanced first year experience programs to assist students in their academic and social adjustments to college lifeDeveloping and overseeing transition programs such as the Peer Mentoring programEstablishing and implementing a communications plan to promote program participationDeveloping and implementing tools to evaluate programs and initiatives and compile annual reportsActing as a resource for other staff and student leaders regarding best practices and current research on design and delivery of transition programsProviding support and guidance, as required to other campuses to ensure College wide services are involved with the student experience and transitional programsTaking the lead in planning, implementing and evaluating Orientation Week for the Barrie campus which includes:Developing and coordinating critical timelinesForecasting and tracking expenditures associated with orientation eventsPreparing the orientation registration processConducting general clerical duties, maintaining files, record keeping and inventory of product and suppliesCoordinating the selection, procurement, assembly and distribution of orientation SWAGSharing resources to assist with the development and execution of orientation programs at other campusesRecruiting student leaders, such as orientation leaders and peer mentors, to represent Georgian College for on-campus eventsDeveloping and identifying vendors and corporate partnerships to provide sponsorship at various orientation and student leadership eventsCommunicating with campus/department stakeholders regarding orientation and transition activities and highlighting options for them to participateTracking data, generating reports, and assisting with program assessment and evaluationParticipating in college events or committees as requiredQUALIFICATIONS:
Successfully completed a three-year postsecondary diploma / degree in a relevant field of study that may include, but is not limited to social / human services, or educationThree years’ experience in a position where duties required an understanding of student development in a post-secondary contextExperience in a leadership role planning large-scale events including consulting with partners, developing timelines, forecasting and tracking expenditures, recruiting and organizing volunteers, and facilitating trainingComputer skills with experience using the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)Demonstrated interpersonal, communication (oral and written) and conflict resolution skillsCritical thinking and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated presentation skillsTime management, organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritizeAbility to work independently and as part of a teamGeorgian College supports diversity, equity and a workplace free from harassment and discrimination and is committed to an inclusive, barrier-free environment.
