    Contract Conditions

    Article 9.02 (vii) (a) A newly hired Teacher who accepts a position teaching French or NSL may not apply to a posting for anything other than French or NSL for the portion of their contract (on date of hire) that is French or NSL for at least five (5) years from their date of hire.

    (b) These teachers may apply for positions other than French or NSL in order to increase their FTE while remaining in a French or NSL position as outlined above.

    Pre‑Employment Requirements

    Applicants are to provide permission to contact two professional references, including their current and most recent supervisor. New hires to the Simcoe County District School Board will be required to submit a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that is satisfactory to the Board prior to beginning employment. All new employees will be required to complete mandatory training modules with the Board prior to their first day of employment.

    Skills & Responsibilities

    In addition to the duties assigned to the teacher under the Act and by the board, a teacher shall,

  • Effective instruction and training – manage class or classes, evaluate pupil progress, and report to the principal on request.
  • Carry out supervisory duties – supply required information to the principal.
  • Cooperate with principal and other teachers – support instruction of pupils.
  • Presence and classroom readiness – be present and ensure readiness at least fifteen minutes before morning classes and five minutes before afternoon classes.
  • Community cooperation – assist the principal in maintaining close cooperation with the community.
  • Preparation of instructional plans – prepare and submit teaching plans and outlines as required.
  • Ensure safety procedures – implement reasonable safety procedures for courses and activities.
  • Disciplinary practices – cooperate with principal and teachers to establish consistent disciplinary practices.
  • Report card completion – fully and properly complete and process report cards in accordance with provincial guidelines.
  • Test administration support – cooperate and assist in the administration of tests under the Education Quality and Accountability Office Act, 1996.
  • Parent communication – participate in regular meetings with pupils’ parents or guardians.
  • Cooperative placements – perform duties related to co‑operative placement of pupils.
  • Graduation duties – perform duties normally associated with the graduation of pupils.
