Time Commitment & Work Allocation
0.3 (30% time) equals 1.5 days per week. The following table maps time percentages to days per week:
1.0 = 100% time or 5.0 days per week
0.9 = 90% time or 4.5 days per week
0.8 = 80% time or 4.0 days per week
0.7 = 70% time or 3.5 days per week
0.6 = 60% time or 3.0 days per week
0.5 = 50% time or 2.5 days per week
0.4 = 40% time or 2.0 days per week
0.3 = 30% time or 1.5 days per week
0.2 = 20% time or 1.0 day per week
0.1 = 10% time or 0.5 days per week
Responsibilities
Effective instruction, training and evaluation of the progress of pupils in the subjects assigned to the teacher and for the management of the class or classes, and reporting to the principal on pupil progress upon request.
Carry out the supervisory duties and instructional program assigned by the principal and supply such information related to the program as the principal may require.
Where the board has appointed teachers under section 14 or 17, co‑operate fully with such teachers and with the principal in all matters related to pupil instruction.
Unless otherwise assigned by the principal, be present in the classroom or teaching area and ensure that it is ready for pupils at least fifteen minutes before morning classes begin, and, where applicable, five minutes before afternoon classes.
Assist the principal in maintaining close cooperation with the community.
Prepare teaching plans and outlines for class use as required by the principal and appropriate supervisory officer, and submit these plans and outlines upon request.
Ensure that all reasonable safety procedures are carried out in courses and activities for which the teacher is responsible.
Co‑operate with the principal and other teachers to establish and maintain consistent disciplinary practices in the school.
Ensure that report cards are fully and properly completed and processed in accordance with the provincial guidance documents in English and French.
Co‑operate and assist in the administration of tests under the Education Quality and Accountability Office Act, 1996.
Participate in regular meetings with pupils’ parents or guardians.
Perform duties as assigned by the principal in relation to cooperative placements of pupils.
Perform duties normally associated with the graduation of pupils.
Legal & Training Requirements
New hires must submit a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and complete mandatory training modules before their first day of employment.
