Position Overview
The Montessori Lead Head Teacher is a key leadership role within the classroom, responsible for guiding the learning environment, mentoring team members, and delivering high‑quality Montessori programming. This role is hands‑on and requires a strong presence in the classroom, excellent communication with families, and a commitment to maintaining a structured, clean, and inspiring environment. The Lead Head Teacher sets the tone for classroom culture, consistency, and excellence.
Licensing, compliance, and Ministry‑related responsibilities are managed by ownership.
- Lead the classroom with a strong commitment to Montessori philosophy, fostering independence, concentration, and respect within a thoughtfully prepared environment
- Design and implement purposeful Montessori experiences across practical life, sensorial, and early academic domains
- Maintain an orderly, aesthetically consistent, and fully prepared classroom that reflects Montessori standards at all times
- Uphold high standards of care and presentation by ensuring the environment is clean, organized, and reset before each meal and at the end of each day
- Provide confident leadership, mentorship, and professional guidance to educators and support staff, modeling best practices in all interactions
- Collaborate in the ongoing development and refinement of Montessori‑aligned programming that reflects the needs and interests of the children
- Conduct regular classroom observations and walkthroughs to ensure excellence in safety, programming quality, and adherence to Montessori principles
- Support the onboarding, orientation, and development of new staff, students, and volunteers, fostering a culture of consistency and professionalism
- Observe and document children’s progress with intention, using insights to guide individualized support and classroom planning
- Communicate with families in a clear, respectful, and professional manner, including consistent updates through platforms such as the Dojo app
- Cultivate strong, trusting relationships with children, families, and colleagues, grounded in respect and collaboration
- Guide children’s social and emotional development through calm, respectful, and developmentally appropriate approaches
- Ensure attentive supervision across all environments, including indoor, outdoor, and rest periods, with a focus on safety and well‑being
- Uphold all centre policies, health and safety standards, and regulatory requirements with professionalism and integrity
- Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment in all matters
- Actively engage in team collaboration, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development
- Ensure smooth daily flow through thoughtful transitions, consistent routines, and attention to detail
- Montessori Certification (MACTE or AMI)
- Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a licensed child care classroom role
- Strong knowledge of child development and classroom leadership
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in parent communication
- Experience using communication platforms (e.g., Dojo) is an asset / can be trained
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
- Clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Strong leadership, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to meet physical demands (lifting, bending, active supervision)
