Location: 24 Napoleon Road, Barrie
Reports to: Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
  • Production Support:
    Provide technical support for production and assembly processes in machinery CNC, welding, painting, and assembly.
  • Identify bottlenecks in production lines and develop solutions to improve production rate.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of production and quality issues and develop effective permanent corrective actions.
  • Process Improvement:
    Conduct technical research to identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to improve safety, quality, productivity and efficiency of the manufacturing process.
  • Determine the return on investment for any improvements and develop the business case to support the change.
  • Manage capital expenditure projects including: the development of the project savings and payback, issuing the request for quote, comparison of the potential vendors, monitoring project timing, managing equipment/ capital build expenditure with supplier(s) and managing project startup with the proper training and documentation.
  • Product Launch:
    Support new product development by working with R&D through prototype validation, design for manufacturing, and development of the assembly process.
  • Manage the new product launch and process development from prototype acceptance through to production launch and first off approval.
  • Drive process improvements through use of flow charts, FMEAs, control plans, value stream mapping, and working hands on with shop floor associates.
  • Complete cycle time studies to balance workflow and optimize efficiency.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings with the ability to accurately measure product and analyze drawings and engineering models for tolerance stack ups.
  • Evaluate new product designs for necessary tooling requirements. Determine the best way to design tooling or fixtures and work with designer to create effective designs.
  • Interface with multiple functions within the company and with people of all levels of management/technical ability.
  • Lead teams or partner with the manufacturing team leaders and supervisors to improve the manufacturing processes.
  • Mentor process specialists and junior level manufacturing engineers.
  • Optimize and implement plant layout changes for the purpose of improving material flow, space requirements and productivity improvements.
Education/Qualifications
  • University degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3 years related manufacturing experience.
  • Professional Engineering designation preferred, PEng eligibility required.
  • Very strong computer skills (MS Office, AutoCAD, Solid Works) CAD modelling experience with Solid Works.
  • Lean manufacturing training and experience is preferred.
  • Proven Health and Safety accountabilities.
  • Self-motivated to achieve the highest level of results.
  • Be hands on with a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Apply originality and ingenuity to improvement of practices and procedures.
  • Promote positive relationships and influence others for timely customer/business solutions.
  • Effectively communicate in both verbal and in written interactions with all levels of the entire value chain.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools and principles.
  • Project management of capital expenditures.
  • Accurate technical report writing skills.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings and measurement techniques.
