The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer to play a key role in the design and delivery of custom automation systems.

This is a senior technical position ideal for someone who:

  • Has strong experience in mechanical design for automation or custom equipment
  • Takes ownership of their work and project outcomes
  • Is ready to lead technical execution and support junior designers

You will work on complex projects while helping to elevate overall design quality, consistency, and team capability.

Role Overview

The Senior Mechanical Designer is responsible for the development of mechanical designs from concept through to completion, ensuring designs are accurate, manufacturable, and aligned with project requirements.

This role plays a key part in both project execution and technical leadership, supporting the Mechanical Design Manager while helping guide junior team members and improve design standards across the team.

The Senior Mechanical Designer is responsible for delivering complete, accurate, and manufacturable designs, supporting projects being completed on time and within budget, and proactively identifying and resolving design challenges that may impact performance or delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed 2D/3D mechanical layouts, models, and drawings using Solid Works
  • Create working drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials for custom automation systems
  • Ensure designs meet performance requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and quality standards
  • Take ownership of assigned projects or major design packages from concept through release
  • Collaborate with project managers, controls engineers, and manufacturing teams
  • Identify design risks and implement effective solutions early in the process
  • Support and guide junior designers, providing technical mentorship and feedback
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of design standards and best practices
  • Ensure proper documentation, revision control, and adherence to company processes
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, and commissioning as required
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve design efficiency, manufacturability, and consistency

  • Consistently delivers high-quality, accurate, and complete designs aligned with project requirements
  • Demonstrates solid ownership of projects, contributing to on-time and on-budget delivery
  • Recognized as a go-to technical resource for complex design challenges
  • Provides effective mentorship and support to junior designers
  • Actively contributes to improving design standards, processes, and documentation
  • Designs are optimized for manufacturability, efficiency, and performance
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project execution
Requirements Education & Experience
  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing or automation environment
  • Proven experience designing complex mechanical systems or custom equipment
Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong proficiency with Solid Works (3D modeling and detailing)
  • Advanced understanding of:
    • Mechanical design principles
    • Fabrication and machining processes
    • Mechanical component and system design
    • Experience with pneumatic, hydraulics, and machine safety standards
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • High level of accountability and ownership
  • Effective communication with internal teams, suppliers, and customers
