The City of Barrie is an actively growing municipality with a variety of arterial, collector, local, rural, semi-rural, and urban roads, evolving stormwater collection, conveyance and treatment systems, and advanced methodologies to maintain assigned linear infrastructure throughout a wide range of climatic conditions. The City's Roads Operations Section is responsible for the effective and efficient operation and maintenance of all roads related linear infrastructure including road surfaces and structural base, curbs, sidewalks, walkways, sewer system access points and stormwater conveyance and treatment systems.
The Roads Section ensures that designated municipal infrastructure is operated and maintained in accordance with applicable legislation including but not limited to the Highway Traffic Act, Environmental Protection Act (EPA), Ontario Water Resources Act, Fisheries Act, and the Occupational Health and Safety ACT (OHSA).
As a member of the Roads Operations Section, the Roads Lead Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of all equipment, processes, and systems associated with assigned City of Barrie roads and stormwater infrastructure to ensure regulatory compliance, community safety, environmental sustainability, and resource conservation. This position acts in a leadership capacity for assigned related projects and utilizes performance data and instrumentation to monitor, evaluate, adjust, maintain and renew municipal roads related infrastructure.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
One (1) year College Certificate in Skilled Trades including Heavy Equipment Operation, Civil Engineering Technology, or post secondary training in municipal roads and infrastructure construction, operations and maintenance
Front End Loader and Skid Steer Operator Training Certificate
Backhoe Operator Training Certificate
Heavy Duty Plow with Hopper Competence Certificate
Ontario Good Roads Association Snow School Certificate
T.J. Mahoney Road School Certificate (completed within 2 years of hire)
C.S. Anderson Roads School Certificate (completed within 3 years of hire)

Experience
Four (4) years of experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position, including:
Three (3) years of experience operating and maintaining municipal linear infrastructure, such as stormwater works, road surfaces and base, sidewalks, walkways and curbs
Two (2) years of experience leading crews
Two (2) years of experience in public sector roads winter maintenance activities
Demonstrated experience operating a wide range of heavy and specialized equipment in a construction or public sector operations setting
Demonstrated experience applying required safety protocols at construction sites including confined space entry and trench safety
Conditions of Employment
Valid Ontario Class "D" Driver's Licence with a "Z" endorsement in good standing
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

Hours:
The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement
