Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Opportunity

This is an ideal opportunity for a technically minded manufacturing professional who enjoys living at the intersection of engineering, automation, sales support, and customer problem-solving.

In this role, you will help shape the early stages of complex automated manufacturing solutions. You will review customer requirements, interpret technical information, assess process needs, and help turn a client’s production challenge into a practical, costed, and clearly communicated automation concept.

Rather than working only after a project is sold, you will be involved before the solution takes shape. Your input will help determine what is possible, what it may cost, how it could be built, where the risks are, and how the proposed system can support the customer’s manufacturing goals.

For someone who understands assembly processes, automation, cycle time, equipment integration, and manufacturing feasibility, this role offers meaningful variety, visibility, and influence.

Position Description

The Manufacturing Engineering Applications Specialist will support the development of automated manufacturing concepts for prospective and existing customers. Working closely with sales, engineering, estimating, suppliers, and internal technical teams, this individual will help evaluate customer information and translate it into sound process recommendations and proposal content.

The role requires both technical judgement and commercial awareness. You will need to understand the customer’s production environment, ask the right questions, identify risks early, and help present solutions in a way that is clear, credible, and aligned with the customer’s needs.

  • Reviewing customer specifications, drawings, layouts, production data, and related technical information
  • Supporting the development of automation concepts for assembly and manufacturing applications
  • Preparing or contributing to cycle-time analysis, layouts, schedules, cost estimates, process documentation, and proposal materials
  • Working with sales colleagues during customer discussions, discovery meetings, technical reviews, and proposal development
  • Collaborating with engineering, suppliers, and internal teams to develop reliable, cost-effective process solutions
  • Assessing manufacturing feasibility, equipment integration needs, labour considerations, timing, technical risk, and project scope
  • Supporting process FMEA, risk reviews, technical presentations, and customer-facing documentation
  • Helping ensure that proposal commitments are accurate, practical, and aligned with internal capabilities
  • Building strong working relationships with customers, suppliers, and colleagues across multiple disciplines
  • This is a hands-on, front-end technical role suited to someone who can think like an engineer, communicate like a consultant, and support the sales process with accuracy and confidence.

    Experience

The successful candidate will bring approximately 3 to 5 years of experience in manufacturing, process development, automation, controls, or a closely related technical environment.

  • Assembly processes, automated manufacturing systems, or production equipment
  • Manufacturing process development, concept development, or application engineering
  • Automation controls, equipment integration, or industrial system design support
  • Cycle-time analysis, layout review, technical estimating, and proposal support
  • Customer-facing technical discussions, sales support, or pre-project solution development
  • Risk assessment, process FMEA, technical documentation, and project scoping
  • Working with cross-functional teams that may include sales, engineering, operations, suppliers, and customers
  • The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between technical details and business needs. They can review a drawing, understand a process, identify gaps, contribute to a costing discussion, and help explain the proposed path forward to both internal stakeholders and customers.

    Qualifications

  • College diploma or university degree in an engineering discipline is preferred
  • Equivalent hands-on industry experience will also be considered
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, automation concepts, cycle times, and equipment integration
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, and AutoCAD
  • Ability to read CAD files and interpret technical drawings
  • Working knowledge of GD&T
  • Solid Works experience is considered an asset
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to support both technical and customer-facing discussions
  • Organized, accountable, and able to manage multiple priorities without losing sight of accuracy or deadlines
  • Collaborative working style with the confidence to contribute ideas, challenge assumptions, and help move solutions forward
  • Education

  • College diploma or university degree in an engineering discipline is preferred
  • Equivalent hands-on industry experience will also be considered
