The Opportunity

The Legislative and Court Services Department is comprised of three branches;
Legislative Services (which includes Council Secretariat, Corporate Mail and Print Services, Vital Statistics and Access and Privacy Services), Court Services (which is responsible for the administration of justice within two court service areas in compliance with the Provincial Offences Act, the Memorandum of Understanding and Inter-municipal Service Agreements) and Enforcement Services, which is responsible for administering and enforcing several municipal by-laws including but not limited to regulations related to the parking of vehicles, pet controls, property maintenance, business licensing, and sign placement.

Enforces various by-laws spanning a variety of disciplines including parking, nuisance enforcement, parks use, smoking, lawn watering, fireworks, etc. for which the Enforcement Services Branch is responsible in an effort to maintain a high living standard within the community. Investigates potential violations of various by-laws in accordance with applicable legislation and departmental policies and procedures. Seeks compliance through negotiation and mediation and where compliance is not forthcoming, lays appropriate charges after carrying out a full investigation, collecting appropriate evidence including witness statements, in accordance with authorizing legislation, and prepares necessary documentation to facilitate a prosecution.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
  • Two (2) year College Diploma in Law Enforcement
  • Six (6) months of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
  • Demonstrated Ability to:
  • communicate, negotiate and mediate clearly
  • Basic computer literacy using the following systems and software:
    Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), etc.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, or holidays
Conditions of Employment
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence in good standing with a reliable vehicle for use on corporate business
  • Eligibility for and willingness to obtain full membership in Municipal Law Enforcement Officer Association of Ontario
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check *

Other Important Information

Hours: The normal hours of work are up to and including 24 hours per week, with employees assigned to a fixed scheduled rotation. Available rotations include:

  • Day/Evening Rotation: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Overnight Rotation: 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m

Wage: This is a casual part-time non-union position with the following 2026 pay range:

  • Hourly Pay Rate: $33.60to $40.24
