Position Summary

The Menu Clerk supports inpatient Nutrition & Food Services by assisting with menu selection, diet order entry, and related production and billing activities to ensure patients receive safe, accurate, and timely meal service. This role works closely with inpatient units, Dietitians, Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP), and Food Services team members to maintain accurate diet information within the Computrition system, identify nutrition-related concerns, and support service quality and patient satisfaction.

The Menu Clerk contributes to effective food service operations through strong attention to detail, communication, and adherence to established nutrition and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receives, reviews and enters patient meal selection, food preferences, and diet changes from Power Orders into the Computrition System in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Processes customized diet orders in Computrition based on guidance from SLPs and Dietitians, and physicians, including but not limited to, Consistent Carbohydrate Diet counts, strict low sodium and fluid restricted diets, food intake records, calorie counts, and supplements.
  • Communicates with the inpatient units, SLPs, and Dietitians regarding diet order entry, patient food needs, and service quality concerns.
  • Communicates with the Nutrition & Food Service Supervisor and/or Manager regarding order entry system issues, food or service quality concerns, and patient satisfaction matters.
  • Assists the Diet Technician with patient related nutrition concerns as required.
  • Identifies and alerts Dietitians, SLPs, and nursing team members to potential nutrition risks and suggests appropriate food substitutions or the corrective course of action when required.
  • Documents all nutrition related information in the Computrition system, ensuring patient diet patient diet profiles and food records are accurate and up to date.
  • Receives and responds to requests from inpatient units for meal trays, additional food items and supplies.
  • Works on the patient meal assembly line as required.
  • Answers telephone inquiries related to catering orders, Meals Made Easy orders, credit information, and general Food Services requests.
  • Prints meal tickets, production sheets and nourishment labels; and maintains statistical records related to patient meal service; and assists with basic troubleshooting of system issues.
  • Assists with supply management, including addressing supply issues, preparing billing, recording and tallying invoices, preparing reports, and photocopying as required.
  • Provides cashier coverage when required.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by Nutrition & Food Services Supervisor, and/or direct manager.
  • Qualifications

    Education

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certification in Food Safety Handling course is required.
  • Certification as a Diet Technician or Food Services Worker an asset.
  • Experience

  • Minimum one (1) year experience with therapeutic diets required.
  • Minimum one (1) year clerical experience preferred.
  • Skills and Traits

  • Must be able to meet the physical and emotional responsibilities of the role, including standing and walking for extended periods, frequent and repetitive pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as safely operating equipment.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, as outlined in the Physical Demands Analysis (PDA).
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and verbal communication, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
