OVERVIEW
The Director, Acute and Critical Care provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care that aligns with Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare's mission, values, and strategic priorities. Working collaboratively with physicians, clinical leaders, and interdisciplinary teams, the Director oversees program planning, quality improvement, operational and financial performance, and workforce development while fostering innovation, continuous improvement, and excellence in patient care across the organization.

ROLE

Provide operational and clinical leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care across a 24/7 healthcare environment

Build strong collaborative relationships with physicians, leaders, staff, and community partners to support seamless care across the continuum

Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical standards, policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives aligned with organizational goals and best practices

Oversee departmental operations, including budgeting, resource planning, capital equipment planning, and financial stewardship

Monitor quality, safety, utilization, and performance indicators, implementing improvement strategies and supporting Accreditation Canada readiness

Foster a culture of safety by identifying operational risks, leading mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory, professional, and accreditation standards

Provide leadership in workforce planning, recruitment retention, performance management coaching, mentoring and professional development of leaders and staff

Promote effective communication and collaboration among interdisciplinary teams, patients, families and community stakeholders to enhance the patient experience

Champion MAHC's mission, vision, and values by recognizing staff achievements, supporting organizational initiatives, and serving as an ambassador within the healthcare community

Lead and participate in organization-wide projects and initiatives across multiple sites, with regular presence in patient care areas and travel between hospital locations as required

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in Health Administration, or related field required

Masters Degree in a related discipline is desired

Registered Nurse in good standing with their relevant College

Minimum of 5 years of progressive related clinical experience in a medium-sized hospital preferred

Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a unionized environment

Location:

Multi-Site, working on site at both the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting.
* Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Hours of Work:
Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8 am - 4 pm. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements.

Conditions of employment for external hires includes;

Proof of immunization and vaccination records to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department
