Job Summary & Requirements
As an integral member of the pharmacy team, Pharmacy Technicians perform tasks to ensure the correct medications are available for patients in a safe and timely manner. They provide the technical component of the medication management system. Pharmacy technicians may rotate through a number of technical positions including, dispensing, unit dose cart fills, automated dispensing unit restocks, sterile and non-sterile compounding,narcotic distribution, and repackaging.
Pharmacy Technicians play an important role in patient safety through completion ofBest Possible Medication Histories.
Travel to offsite locations is required.
Pharmacy Technicians are constantly responding to changes in practices and increased volumes to improve efficiencies and cost effectiveness. Pharmacy Technicians may participate on various teams and committees at both the hospital and departmental levels. They participateincontinuing education programs. Pharmacy Technicians mentor and train students from high school and community colleges as well as provide training for new technicians and pharmacists. They work in a manner that is compliant with standards and information from the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), Ontario College of Pharmacists and Accreditation Canada.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a regularly scheduled weekend rotation.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician, in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
- Graduate of an Accredited Pharmacy Technician College Program
- Minimum two years of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting an asset
- Knowledge and understanding of technical rotations and pharmacy automation systems
- Good understanding of automated distribution systems
- Experience in sterile compounding and aseptic technique is a strong asset
- Sound problem solving, communications (oral and written), conflict resolution and decision-making skills
- Demonstrate commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others
- Positive Change Agent
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure
- Contribute to a strong teamwork environment
- Knowledge of multiculturalism and diversity
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Excellent attendance, punctuality and employment record
