Location: Midland

Plant EH&S Manager

This salaried, exempt level position involves strategic leadership and oversight of all health, safety, and environmental programs at ADM’s Midland Flour Mill in Midland, Ontario. The role reports to the Plant Manager and partners with plant leadership to drive a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and support continuous improvement initiatives that align with ADM standards.

Pre‑Employment Requirement

Successful completion of pre‑employment medical and reference checks.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the working environment is always safe by applying company standards and correcting unsafe behaviours and conditions identified during inspections.
  • Participate in accident and incident investigations and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Champion near‑miss reporting.
  • Apply knowledge of Canadian Labour Code and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.
  • Support and participate in workplace health and safety committees.
  • Collaborate with the HSE Area Manager to implement ADM health, safety, and environment principles.
  • Provide mandatory training to managers, co‑workers, and contractors on ADM principles.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety programs, records, and reports.
  • Deliver public presentations and training for leadership and frontline workers.
  • Communicate daily with management on facility safety, health, and environmental matters.
  • Enhance employee engagement and safety leadership through effective influence.
  • Mentor staff to promote the use of Safe Work Permits and Last‑Minute Risk Assessments.
Environmental Responsibilities
  • Maintain compliance with site environmental programs (stormwater management, hazardous & universal waste, asbestos management, spill prevention).
  • Conduct inspections, training, and reporting in accordance with regulatory and ADM requirements.
  • Partner with the Area Environmental Manager to maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS) and required record‑keeping.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; waivable with extraordinary experience.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or actively working toward CRSP certification.
  • Environmental certification (EP, CET, or equivalent) considered an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety roles within manufacturing or industrial environments.
Skills and Competencies
  • Effective leadership and management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication, including public presentation ability.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office and learning new systems).
  • Team collaboration with leaders and frontline workers.
  • Hazard recognition, risk assessment, and control recommendation.
Working Conditions
  • Office and varying indoor/outdoor environments, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs for prolonged periods.
