Salary: $50,000 - $60,000 annually (based on experience)

Responsibilities

As a Plant Molecular Biology Technician, you will split your time between precise sterile culture maintenance and advanced molecular analysis. Your core duties will include:

  • Tissue Culture & Regeneration: Prepare and sterilize tissue culture media, transplant plantlets, execute tissue regeneration protocols, and troubleshoot culture issues.
  • Molecular Breeding & Transformation: Perform Agrobacterium-mediated transformations, assist with alternative transformation protocols, and extract DNA/RNA from plant tissues.
  • Analysis & Verification: Run PCR-based techniques for molecular analysis and verify transformation events and gene expression.
  • Data Management & Compliance: Maintain meticulous records of tissue cultures in compliance with industry regulations and track treatments within the internal ERP system.
  • Collaboration & Reporting: Write and report technical results, present scientific insights and recommendations to peers, and actively participate in R&D discussions.
  • Lab Stewardship: Sterilize and maintain tissue culture vessels and laboratory equipment to ensure optimal, sterile working conditions.
Qualifications

To excel in this role, you should bring a blend of fine motor skills, scientific curiosity, and academic grounding:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Biology, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, or a related scientific field (equivalent hands-on laboratory experience will also be considered).
  • Experience: 1–2 years of preferred experience in molecular biology, tissue culture regeneration, or plant/horticultural science. Active involvement in R&D projects is a strong asset.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with how to execute precise, fine motor movements while working under strict sterile conditions (laminar flow hoods). Proficient with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to present findings and collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders to drive decision-making.
