Community Settlement Counsellor

Enhance the lives of newcomers to Canada as a Community Settlement Counsellor with YMCA in Barrie. Provide essential support and guidance for successful integration into the community.

This role focuses on assisting immigrants and refugees in Barrie and surrounding areas in Simcoe County. Applicants should have a background in social services or equivalent experience. Key responsibilities include client eligibility assessment, solution-focused counseling, and resource information support to foster community integration and service accessibility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess program eligibility for newcomers and provide counseling

• Offer guidance and make referrals to community services

• Conduct workshops for students, families, and school faculty

• Compile monthly statistics and maintain client documentation

• Promote immigrant programming and build community relationships

Requirements:

• Post-secondary education in social services or related field

• Valid Class G Driver’s License and vehicle access

• Experience with newcomers and settlement services

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and research

• Ability to communicate in Urdu considered an asset
