Reporting to the Manager, Services and Supports, the Autism Consultant is responsible for providing Autism-based services to support persons of all ages, their families and communities. The Autism Consultant provides assistance with increasing knowledge, capacity, and navigating supports within the Autism service sector, based on individual goals.
- Follow established Community Services practices and provide support in line with Mission, Vision, and Values and Strategic Plan of Kerry’s Place
- Fulfill responsibilities as an Autism Consultant across various programs
- Consult with and maintain positive working relationships with supported persons, families, agencies, community groups, employers, and other key contacts
- Work collaboratively with supported persons, families, agencies, community groups, as well as the internal team to support resource navigation and identified goals on an ongoing basis
- Provide strategies and resources to support identified goals, in line with evidence-informed and best practices for the sector
- Liaise with families, community groups and partner agencies in a professional fashion, including obtaining and maintaining necessary consent for service provision
- Provide support/facilitation in group settings for persons with Autism, family members, agencies, and community member
- Document and maintain electronic client files in a professional, thorough, and consistent manner, as outlined in record keeping procedures
- Support community capacity building through attending events and provision of education/training, supporting others to gain understanding of Autism and Kerry’s Place services and supports
- Represent Kerry’s Place at external community tables, committees, and/or events, as needed
- Attend case conferences and/or meetings, as needed
- Ensure the health and safety of supported persons in accordance to Ontario Regulation 299/10 Quality Assurance Measures, the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, and the Provincial and Municipal regulations and by-laws
- Other duties as assigned
- Post-secondary education in Human / Social Services
- Minimum 1-year experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other disabilities in a community-based setting
- Experience working with families and community agencies, as well as demonstrated knowledge of formal and informal resources available
- Experience implementing evidence-informed support strategies for people with Autism
- Understanding of human development and healthy relationship dynamics, as well as support approaches found to be helpful in support to individuals with ASD
- Basic understanding of Child and Family Services Act, Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and other relevant legislation
