Job Summary

We are looking for a caring, experienced, creative and dynamic physiotherapist to fulfil the role of rotational specialist band 6 physiotherapist at Furness General Hospital.

Face‑to‑face attendance at the assessment centre is required due to the interview process format.

This role will cover a range of clinical areas including Trauma and Orthopaedics, ICU/Surgery, Elderly care and Frailty, Acute Medicine (including acute neuro management), Acute respiratory, and MSK outpatients (consultant referrals).

Rotations are for 8 months, with flexibility for service and individual development needs.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily clinical provision of physiotherapy within a particular clinical area.
  • Assess patients, develop goals and plans, provide required treatment and contribute to MDT for discharge planning.
  • Provide clinical training and support for other physiotherapists, take an active part in In‑Service Training (IST) and external education in line with CPD Division Guidelines.
  • Disseminate any external training received to the wider team.
  • Participate in overnight on‑call and weekend rosters; prior Band 5 level or equivalent experience is essential.
  • Communicate effectively and work within MDT to facilitate ongoing developments with integrated working.
  • Respond well to difficult situations, display awareness of safeguarding and demonstrate a problem‑solving approach.
  • Supervise and support junior staff, including completing inductions, appraisals and training of junior staff and students.
  • Maintain clinical record keeping using electronic patient records in accordance with Trust, Division, H&CC and Chartered Society of Physiotherapists standards.
About Us

We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – along with a number of community healthcare premises:

  • Millom Hospital
  • GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe
  • Ulverston Community Health Centre

All three main hospitals provide a range of general services, including full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and consultant‑led services, as well as outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. Local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Health and Care Professions Council registered Physiotherapist.
  • Honours Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy approved by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists/Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Evidence of relevant postgraduate specialist clinical education.
  • Commitment to independent learning and continued professional development.
  • Experience of team leadership.
  • Evidence of involvement in service development.
  • Respiratory and on‑call experience within an acute service.
  • Experience of working within a team.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English in a variety of settings.
  • Comprehensive rotational experience as a Staff grade in core competencies within physiotherapy (eg musculo‑skeletal, neurology and cardio‑respiratory care).

Desirable

  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists or equivalent.
  • Experience of patient management, including prioritisation, assessment, treatment and discharge planning.
