£55,000 - £60,000 + Company Car / Car Allowance
An established and growing specialist contractor within the construction sector is seeking an experienced Surveyor / Estimator to join their team. This is a hybrid commercial role combining both estimating and quantity surveying responsibilities, offering excellent long-term career prospects within a supportive and professional environment.
The RoleThis position offers a dynamic split between pre‑contract estimating and post‑contract commercial management. Depending on workload, you will take the lead in either function, playing a key role in both securing and delivering projects.
Projects are primarily within passive fire protection, including fire‑stopping, cavity barriers, and specialist coatings, across sites nationwide (predominantly Midlands‑based).
Key Responsibilities Estimating Duties- Manage tender enquiries from initial review through to submission
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documents
- Carry out site visits where required
- Prepare detailed cost estimates including labour, materials, and plant
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing
- Produce detailed bills of quantities and tender submissions
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and fire safety standards
- Support value engineering initiatives
- Attend pre‑start and handover meetings upon project award
- Manage projects from award through to final account ("cradle to grave")
- Review contracts and terms to ensure commercial compliance
- Monitor budgets, costs, and project cashflow
- Manage variations, compensation events, and change control
- Submit monthly applications for payment and track outstanding monies
- Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
- Conduct regular site visits and support project delivery teams
- Lead final account negotiations and close‑out
- Experience with in construction (passive fire protection advantageous but not essential)
- Strong commercial awareness and contractual knowledge (JCT/NEC)
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Full UK driving licence
- Salary of £55,000 - £60,000
