Lead Lighting Design Engineer - Exterior Lighting

Our client is a growing UK highways infrastructure contractor delivering civil engineering works across national and local authority frameworks.

Due to continued growth within their Highways Electrical division, they are seeking a Lighting Design Engineer to support the delivery of lighting and external electrical schemes across public highway and public realm environments.

You will be responsible for the end-to-end design and technical delivery of street lighting and associated electrical infrastructure, including:

Street lighting column layouts and lighting level calculations

Cable sizing and distribution design

Feeder pillar specification and design

The role covers surveys, feasibility studies, concept and detailed design, ensuring all schemes comply with BS 5489, EN 13201, BS 7671 (18th Edition), CDM Regulations and local authority standards.

You will work closely with highways, civils and traffic teams, supporting contractors through installation, testing and commissioning, and ensuring accurate as-built and asset data records are maintained.

Key responsibilities include:

Produce lighting calculations, drawings and technical specifications using lighting design software and CAD packages

Undertake site surveys and condition assessments

Ensure full compliance with highway and electrical standards

Provide technical support during installation and commissioning

Liaise with local authorities, Tier 1 contractors and internal project teams

Support long-term asset management and sustainability objectives

Level 3 Electrotechnical NVQ (or equivalent)

AM2 Qualification (preferred)

Knowledge of 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations

Strong working knowledge of BS 7671

Experience in Inspection & Testing

Background in street lighting or highways electrical design

Proficient with lighting calculation software and CAD

£70,000 base salary + Company Car + Bonus
