Job Title

Laundry Assistant

Purpose of Position

Carry out a range of duties within the day-to-day programme of care for the elderly.

Internal and External Contacts
  • Internal:
    Care Home Manager, Deputy Manager, Senior Carer, House-Keeper, Maintenance, All other employees within the Home
  • External:
    Residents, Residents family & friends
  • Responsibilities
    • Make and change all beds/bedding.
    • Remove all clothing and bed linen to the laundry room in a covered laundry receptacle.
    • Remove soiled/sluiced laundry in red laundry bags to the laundry room.
    • Ensure laundry is categorised and washed according to its needs.
    • Ensure all items of clothing are properly dried and returned to Resident’s rooms and all household linens are returned to the correct storage area.
    • Iron any item of clothing when required.
    • Keep the laundry room clean and tidy.
    • Co-operate and maintain good working relationships with all staff.
    • Fully comply with all health and safety requirements.
    • Wear PPE; protective gloves and clothing, as required.
    • Attend in-house/external training/meetings as required.
    • Perform other such reasonable duties as may be required.
    Selection Criteria Education / Training

    Health and Safety; moving and handling, COSHH, infection control, etc.

    Experience

    Experience of correct use of laundry equipment and materials.

    Skills / Competence
    • Communication; good command of both written and verbal English.
    • Planning and Organisation; able to plan own workload.
    • Technical; knowledge of laundry chemicals, fabrics and laundering conditions.
    • Team-working.
    • Attention to Detail/Quality Focused.
    • Customer Service.
