Bereavement Officer (RP0021)

Salary: £34,431 pa starting, progressing to £37,464 pa through annual increments subject to satisfactory service (inclusive of outer fringe allowance).

Hours:

37 hours per week (5 days out of 7, including some Saturdays on a rota).

Contract:

Permanent.

Responsibilities
  • Chapel Duties – Welcoming families and Funeral Directors, ensuring services are conducted with dignity and run seamlessly.
  • Cremation – Undertaking full training and working towards an accredited FBCA qualification, participating in the complete cremation process and the respectful management of ashes.
  • Administration – Managing bookings for burials and cremations, verifying documentation, maintaining accurate records, and supporting families with enquiries.
  • Contract Management – Overseeing contractors to ensure cemeteries are maintained to our service standards, including grounds care, site cleaning, and grave preparation.
Qualifications & Requirements

Based at our award‑winning Oak Hill Lawn Cemetery & Crematorium five days per week (including some Saturdays on a rota basis), with travel required to cemeteries and other council offices and sites across the borough.

UK full driving licence required.

Ability to converse with ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential.
