The telephone based Mental Health Triage Service, 111 Press 2 service within Cardiff and the Vale, has been integrated into the existing 111/ CAV
24/7 service, for people in mental health distress. It provides access to mental health support 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. It is delivered by skilled professional staff who will provide sensitive and specialist mental health screening to ensure individuals receive the appropriate outcome.

Individuals using 111 Press 2 are of all ages, and can present with a broad range of mental health presentations including common mental health conditions for example anxiety, low mood, emotional distress, and acute/major mental illness conditions such as psychosis, bipolar disorder, high risk suicidal behaviours.

If you are educated to degree level or equivalent and have evidence of Continuing Professional Development in an area of mental health, as well as having experience of providing mental health and wellbeing support, we would love to hear from you.

The ability to work autonomously, using your own initiative as well as being a part of a team is essential.

You will need to be flexible in your working patterns to meet the service need, which will include out of hours, bank holidays and weekend working.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner, you will be providing an all-age service offering high quality telephone triage, guidance, advice and onward referrals, for individuals presenting in mental distress or acute crisis, using a range of psychological interventions and skills.

You will be an experienced and confident practitioner who can provide individualised care in line with the organisations core values and behaviours to deliver a safe and efficient service to those accessing it, using a range of therapeutic skills.

The wellbeing Practitioner will work under the guidance of a Senior Mental Health Clinician, and when necessary, elevate the call to the relevant registrant, clinician, service or organisation, whilst confidently managing the transition in collaboration with the relevant person/people.

Where the caller requires more support than can be offered by the Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioner, provide accurate information regarding local services that people can access, so that appropriate and continued support is made available.

Be trauma informed and be aware of the social determinants of mental health when developing a support and safety plan with each person accessing the service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role;

Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level standard or equivalent level of experience.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in an area of mental health or supporting people field.
  • Awareness of social determinants of mental health and wellbeing
  • An understanding of common mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • A good understanding of the barriers and challenges that people with serious mental health issues face.
  • Must have some understanding of the issues affecting people from black and ethnic minority communities, and those with other protected characteristics.
  • Must have a good understanding of the impact of stigma and discrimination.
  • An understanding of commonly occurring mental health conditions
  • An understanding of the services that are available within the area to support people who may present in mental health crisis
  • An understanding of the need to use evidence-based psychosocial interventions.
Experience
  • Experience of providing mental health or wellbeing support to people in mental distress.
