Are you passionate about developing the healthcare science workforce of the future? The Northern Training Consortium (NTC) has a part-time (0.4 WTE) opportunity to co‑ordinate work‑based training across the healthcare science career framework, principally within the physical and physiological sciences. The NTC is considered an exemplar training consortium by the National School of Healthcare Science.

You must be an HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist with in‑depth knowledge of the requirements of the Scientist Training Programme (STP), and broad knowledge of the healthcare science career framework.

Main duties of the job

As training co‑ordinator you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day running of the NTC, working with the NTC Director, Training Officers and Partners to ensure NTC objectives are met, trainees are supported, and training accreditation is maintained. There is dedicated administrative support for this post. You will also be the Training Officer / line manager for many of the STP specialisms supported by the NTC, and involved in other training programmes within NTC's remit, such as HSST and apprenticeships.

Job responsibilities
  • Responsible for the day‑to‑day running of the NTC
  • As a lead scientist, performs a range of advanced healthcare science activities
  • Line‑manages or mentors trainees across the range of teams within the consortium, and acts as Training Officer for STP trainees across all specialisms
  • Participates in the teaching and training commitments of the service
  • Maintains and develops high standards of service provision throughout their area of responsibility
  • Contributes to the development, implementation and monitoring of clinical and organisational strategies within area of expertise
  • Initiates, in collaboration with the line manager, the development and delivery of research and development activities for healthcare advancement
Person Specification Qualifications & Education
  • A First‑ or Second‑Class Honours Degree in an appropriate subject
  • A post‑graduate degree at master’s or PhD level, or equivalent level of specialist knowledge
  • Registered Clinical Scientist
  • Corporate membership of a professional body
  • Coaching, mentorship or leadership qualification
Knowledge & Experience
  • Highly specialist up to date in‑depth knowledge and understanding of the application of physical and engineering sciences and/or physiological sciences
  • Highly specialist in‑depth knowledge and understanding of current UK legislation and regulations pertinent to working area, and the protection of staff, patients and members of the public
  • In‑depth knowledge of training programmes across the HCS career framework
  • In‑depth knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
  • Evidence of knowledge of current scientific and technological developments in healthcare science
