As a Junior Clinician, you will work as part of our Behaviour department, gaining hands‑on experience in all aspects of behavioural medicine. You’ll be joining a dynamic and supportive multi‑disciplinary team in our busy Small Animal Referral Hospital and contributing to the expansion of behaviour services. Our behaviour team currently consists of a staff clinician in Veterinary Behaviour and a Behaviour Nurse.

This is a unique opportunity for a candidate interested in starting or advancing a career in veterinary behaviour and is ideal for a Veterinary Surgeon with at least 2 years of post‑graduation clinical experience, who has developed a range of skills in clinical animal behaviour.

What You’ll Do
  • Work as part of the behaviour department, assisting with initial consultations and follow‑up care, contributing to client support and the prescribing of psychoactive medications as appropriate.
  • Provide excellent written communication and reports to referring veterinarians and clients.
  • Receive mentorship from our experienced veterinary behaviourist and behaviour nurse, as well as the clinicians, nurses and physiotherapists in the wider hospital team.
  • Provide continuous veterinary cover for behaviour patients during periods of colleague absence.
  • Participate in regular rounds and case discussions between the behaviour and chronic pain rehabilitation teams.
  • Contribute to clinical teaching of veterinary nurse students.

Job Purpose
  • To support the behaviour team to develop behaviour medicine services within the Small Animal Referral Hospital.
  • To provide excellent care for patients.
  • To provide excellent customer care.
  • To communicate and liaise effectively with clinicians and nurses working within other services to ensure cases are managed and efficiently.
  • To contribute to clinical teaching of undergraduate students.
Principal Accountabilities
  • To provide behaviour medicine services for the Small Animal Referral Hospital, ensuring all cases are accepted and treated appropriately.
  • To work with multidisciplinary teams to provide excellent care for all patients.
  • To ensure the continuing growth of the referral caseload by providing excellent customer and patient care
  • To support growth of the service through involvement in marketing initiatives undertaken by Langford Vets.
  • To undertake relevant training as requested in order to expand services offered within Langford Vets.
  • To perform diagnoses, treatments and behaviour training of patients to the standards expected by the RCVS for a referral teaching hospital.
  • To record all case records accurately.
  • To ensure that client consent is gained as necessary and that they are aware of and kept up to date with treatment costs.
  • To ensure that laboratory findings are reported to clients.
  • To assess in patients as necessary to provide anxiolysis and behaviour management advice, record treatment and update all relevant staff of any changes.
