Barstow Community College is an open-access, comprehensive two-year institution serving a diverse student population in the Mojave region of San Bernardino County, California. The College s campus is located in Barstow, California, situated in California s high desert, between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

About the District

Established in 1959, the Barstow Community College District (BCCD) serves a wide service area and maintains a satellite learning center at the U.S. Army National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California, which serves military personnel and their families. BCCD is committed to providing equitable, accessible, and affordable education with diverse student populations and comprehensive programs.

Role and Assignment

This is a continuous recruitment for an applicant pool to fill part-time (up to 67%), substitute, temporary, or hourly assignments on an as needed basis. Part-Time faculty applications stay in the pool for one year. Departments will refer to the pool to fill temporary assignments. Assignments are at the discretion of the District. Applications for Part-Time Instructors are accepted for assignments at the main campus as well as online and at off-campus sites located at Fort Irwin.

REQUIREMENTS

Master s in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition OR Bachelor s in any of the above AND Master s in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism OR the equivalent. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds.

Desired Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency in teaching at the community college level.
