SummaryUnder the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Information Technology (IT) Specialist provides technical support to employees and students by diagnosing, troubleshooting, replacing, installing, and maintaining computers, related hardware, software, mobile devices, and peripherals in physical and virtual environments. The role assists with hardware and software procurement, licensing compliance, asset management, and performs network and operating system maintenance functions following established procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Respond to help desk tickets, calls, walk‑ins, and emails regarding computer hardware and software problems; provide follow‑up support.
- Assist end‑users with access difficulties, operating system and software malfunctions, and hardware repairs on laptops, PCs, virtual machines, mobile devices, and peripheral equipment.
- Troubleshoot and perform technical repair duties that include diagnosing system failures, repairing or replacing parts, and testing.
- Create and deploy images; develop scripts to automate processes; plan, schedule, and complete computer refresh projects; test and configure applications and new software functionalities on applicable servers and platforms.
- Provide technical support for computer labs on campus and off‑campus sites; install and maintain computers, peripherals, and software applications, including specialized systems to meet ADA requirements.
- Provide technical support to desktop, remote, and network connectivity issues; perform hardware and software tests using diagnostic and testing equipment.
- Communicate with vendors as needed to resolve technical issues.
- Maintain print servers by creating printer queues, uploading printer drivers, and assigning users to printers.
- Assist in troubleshooting network hardware and operations problems, including connectivity, internet access, electronic mail, and file servers.
- Deliver, install, and configure computers, VoIP devices, software applications, docking stations, printers, scanners, and other peripheral equipment; set up video conferencing equipment and administer conferencing software; install cables, IP cameras, wireless access points, Wi‑Fi, network cards, and other networking components.
- Coordinate, install, and configure network components including computers, printers, cabling, phones, servers, and user accounts.
- Provide guidance regarding instructional strategies for integration of technology in instruction; provide technical support to students.
- Develop and maintain internal media servers for campus‑wide informational monitors; coordinate IT support for events/productions with the event manager.
- Monitor security tools to reduce the risk of a security breach and improve efficiency of the network security infrastructure; troubleshoot malware, ransomware, phishing, and other viruses; conduct IT security training for employees and students.
- Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain computer operating systems and software while ensuring compliance and compatibility with the network; modify software and analyze software needs for modernizing processes and expansions.
- Provide Hy‑Flex support for classrooms, and audio‑visual support for conference rooms and events; install, configure, and maintain portable units; set up and test audio, visual, and associated equipment for campus events.
- Keep track of response time, mean time to repair, end‑user satisfaction, and the number of problems resolved within a given period.
- Maintain Cisco Call Manager databases including Unity and Call Center.
