As a Steward in the Galley section, your primary responsibility is to support the smooth operations of the galley and pantry areas on board a vessel. You will assist in the preparation and service of meals, maintain cleanliness and organization, and ensure guest satisfaction.

Galley Assistance
  • Assist the Chef and Cooks in the preparation and presentation of meals following recipes and guidelines.
  • Ensure timely delivery of food and beverages to the dining areas, maintaining proper temperature and quality.
  • Assist in setting up and organizing the buffet stations, food displays, and beverage stations.
  • Prepare and garnish food items, such as salads, sandwiches, and desserts, as directed by the culinary team.
Cleanliness and Organization
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the galley area, following food safety and hygiene guidelines.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces regularly.
  • Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, cutlery, and other food service items.
  • Dispose of waste and empty trash receptacles, ensuring proper waste management.
Guest Service and Assistance
  • Provide friendly and attentive service to guests in the dining areas, assisting with their requests and inquiries.
  • Clear tables and reset them for the next guests, ensuring a clean and welcoming dining environment.
  • Assist in the replenishment of food and beverage stations, ensuring availability and cleanliness.
  • Respond promptly to guest feedback or complaints, taking appropriate actions to address their concerns.
Inventory Management
  • Assist in the receipt, storage, and inventory management of food supplies, beverages, and pantry items.
  • Assist in the rotation of perishable and non-perishable items, ensuring proper stock rotation and minimizing wastage.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock levels, assisting in conducting regular stock checks as required.
  • Notify the supervisor or senior staff of any shortages or discrepancies in inventory.
Hygiene and Safety
  • Adhere to strict hygiene and sanitation standards in the galley area, following food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Practice proper personal hygiene, including handwashing and wearing appropriate protective clothing.
  • Comply with all safety procedures and guidelines, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Report any hygiene or safety issues to the supervisor or senior staff immediately.
Teamwork and Communication
  • Collaborate with the galley team, including Chefs, Cooks, and other Stewards, to ensure smooth operations.
  • Communicate effectively with the team and other departments, conveying information and assisting with coordination.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new Stewards, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Participate in team meetings and briefings, providing updates and suggestions for improvement.
Requirements
  • Previous experience as a Steward or in a similar role in the galley section, preferably in the maritime or hospitality industry.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation and service techniques.
  • Familiarity with hygiene and sanitation regulations, food safety guidelines, and cleanliness standards.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and service-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to work well in a team and follow instructions from senior staff.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work in shifts and adapt to changing schedules.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects when necessary.
  • Willingness to comply with all safety and security procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of English is usually required, and additional language skills may be advantageous.
