• Identify the various cuts of meat, breakdown, cut and trim all meat products as directed by company standards, weigh, wrap/package products in a clean, neat and attractive package.
• Greet customers, respond to customer questions/requests/complaints and explain store policies in a courteous manner, and write down customers’ special orders/requests.
• Review the perishable department Communication Board daily and follow the guidelines for intercom announcements.
• Prepare/organize the cooler/freezer/backroom/preparation area for receipt of merchandise, verify the merchandise against the invoice, inspect delivery for quality/shortages/damage, sort cases for stocking or product preparation, and code-date all case items in the cooler/freezer.
• Load stocking carts/pallets, transport cases/product to sales floor/cooler/freezer/product preparation area, match the case strip to the shelf/case tag/stock, open cases, place merchandise in the designated cooler/freezer/case/shelf/display position, check product code/freshness date and "face/front"; rotate each product on display.
• Understand the operations, safety requirements and restraints of equipment such as baler, case cutter, pallet jack, pricing gun, grinder, tenderizer, saw, knife, slicer, scales, wrapper. (Must be 18 years or older to operate pallet jack, baler, grinder, tenderizer, saw and slicer).

Journeyman Meat Cutter reports directly to the Meat Department Manager.

• Basic Mathematics (Add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Prior meat cutting experience

• Lift, twist, move and carry a maximum of 75 lbs., from the floor to shelving, or overhead racks in the store and cooler/freezer, and up to 10 yards.
• Maintain active signage and pricing in all departmental areas
• Care for signs, banners, and debris from daily operations
• Accurately and efficiently handle cash, debit/credit, EBT/WIC, coupons, and vouchers
• Respond to customers, coworkers, and vendor questions and responses promptly and politely
• Proper usage of store phone and intercom systems
• To supervise/perform the checking of case and cooler temperatures 4 times daily utilizing the time keeping system to record each check
• To clean and sanitize department floors, mirrors, cases, racks, tables, cooler, freezer, department equipment, product-preparation area, and shelves. Safely use cleaning equipment and chemicals
• Read production-equipment gauges/controls, case labels/strips, equipment and chemical-warning labels, signs, tags, shelf signs, code dates, invoices, temperature gauges, reports, numbers and aisle markers

Inside work with transitions of heat/cold/humidity/dust from backdoor, compressors, cooler/freezer, and preparation area.
