Position SummaryThe Pharmacy Technician II works under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and assists with dispensing functions, including purchasing, inventory control of all drug classes, sterile product preparation, and automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) maintenance. The role serves all patient populations and handles a variety of medication requests.
Responsibilities- Prepare and label medication orders accurately and efficiently.
- Stock and maintain automated dispensing cabinets; remove expired medication and restock.
- Check medication rooms and patient bins for discontinued or expired medications.
- Fill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits.
- Package and label oral medications and extemporaneous preparations.
- Respond to STAT orders, routine orders, and department requests.
- Ensure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing.
- Stock medications into pharmacy inventory, including sterile compounding areas.
- Maintain medication stock levels and proper storage.
- Deliver medications to patient care areas.
- Attend to medication requests and phone calls.
- Perform monthly unit inspections.
- Prepare simple IV admixtures in accordance with IV policies and procedures (USP).
- Comply with state and federal regulatory requirements and hospital policies.
- Assist with additional duties as assigned.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of hospital pharmacy experience.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician license/certification, in accordance with state law.
- Preferred:
Accredited training in sterile product preparation and IV admixture certification.
