the manual machinist will produce quality machine parts utilizing a variety of manual lathes and mills.

responsibilities

  • studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of the finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • measures, marks, and scribes’ dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, balancer, and other machine tools.
  • calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
  • sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • fits and assembles parts into complete assembly.
  • verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, equipment, and unit tests to ensure functionality and performance.
  • confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • maintain the shop area in a safe, clean, and working order.
  • support the ems quality policy and quality objectives.

requirements

  • perform other duties as assigned.
  • a minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (ged) plus machining certification with 5+ years of machining experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • knowledgeable of machining techniques on the equipment assigned.
  • be familiar with material types and general properties of materials related to assignments.
  • must have a working knowledge of measuring equipment including mics, calipers, comparators, and indicators.
  • be very familiar with drawing terms and be able to interpret feature requirements.
  • be able to read and understand the router.
  • understand the data collection system.
  • understand relevant safety requirements.
  • must be able to work in a team environment.
  • must be able to speak, read and write in the english language.

restrictions

  • ability to bend, stoop, grip, reach and lift up to 40 lbs. On a repetitive basis.
  • able to stand the majority of the shift to perform duties.
