Fabrication Shop Supervisor (2nd Shift) – AlphaStaffHCM

Location: Bartow, FL

We are looking for a Welder – Fabricator to lead the 2nd shift shop fabrication team while supervising welding, fabrication, plate rolls, brake press and plasma burn table operations. This position combines frontline supervision with direct contribution on the shop floor when needed. Responsibilities
  • Lead the 2nd shift fabrication team by assigning work, monitoring progress, and maintaining production flow across active jobs.
  • Work alongside welders and fabricators to complete MIG, TIG, and Stick welding and fabrication tasks, as well as machine operator duties.
  • Review blueprints, drawings, and work orders to allocate labor and materials for the shift.
  • Support problem solving on the floor by helping team members interpret drawings, set up work, verify measurements, and complete complex welds or assemblies.
  • Oversee material staging, equipment readiness, and safe operation of welders, tools, and shop machinery.
  • Monitor quality of in‑process and completed work and provide real‑time feedback to maintain consistency and accuracy.
  • Maintain communication with the 1st shift team, supervisors, and management regarding job status, priorities, and any other production challenges.
  • Train and coach newer welders and fabricators on techniques, safety practices, and shop standards.
  • Complete shift reports, labor tracking, and basic documentation related to shop output.
  • Promote a clean, organized, and safe work environment by guiding team members in daily housekeeping and compliance with safety policies and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with drafters and engineering staff when clarification is needed on prints or specifications.
  • Participate in welding and fabrication tasks directly during the shift; this is a hands‑on when needed working supervisor role.
Physical Demands

This position requires frequent standing, bending, pulling, carrying, and work in varied postures throughout the shift. Must be able to lift and move up to 75 lbs. regularly and operate welding equipment and fabrication tools for extended periods.

Work Environment

Work is performed in an industrial fabrication shop and sometimes outdoors. Noise, heat, sparks, heavy machinery, and physical hazards are part of the daily environment. Safety gear and compliance with all safety practices are always required. Operation of cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment may be involved.

Shift And Training
  • Standard 2nd shift hours are Monday to Thursday from 2:30 PM to 1:30 AM.
  • Occasional optional overtime may occur, daily and Saturday at times based on workload and schedules.
  • A 2nd shift differential is included in the compensation package.
  • New hires complete initial training on 1st shift (6:30 AM to 4:30 PM) before moving to 2nd shift.
  • The facility maintains a minimum of two employees present at all times per shift for safety.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 4 or more years of experience in welding and metal fabrication.
  • Previous experience in a lead role, working lead, or frontline supervisory position in a fabrication or industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.
  • Proficiency with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding.
  • Strong skills in layout, measurement, fit‑up, and fabrication.
  • Comfortable operating standard shop tools, welders, and material handling equipment.
  • A minimum requirement is working knowledge and the ability to support Burn Table, Plate Roll and Brake Press operations. Actual experience with any of these types of equipment is a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED required. A welding trade school certificate is preferred.
